The last event of the 54th Philippine Urological Association Annual Convention ended with a bang as it showcased different local talents in UROcks. The very first performer was Jay Cayuca who was once touted as the best rock violinist on earth rendered us with various songs while he played with the crowd. The main act for the night was the duo of Jose Pepe Smith and Mike Hanopol, the icons of Philippine Rock and Roll. They brought the house down with their famous original hits such as No Touch and Laki sa Layaw. The PUA Band even jammed with the group for one song.
On a lighter side, the new fellows of the PUA were inducted by no less than the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation President and CEO, Dr. Eduardo Banzon. This year had the most number of inductees totaling to 19. The new officers of the PUA-Mindanao Chapter were also inducted into office, namely: Dr. Gregorio Cordovez Jr. - President, Dr. Manuel Gerard Sevilla – Vice President, Dr. Dionisio Gaw – Treasurer and Dr. Pavio Buac – Assistant Treasurer, Dr. Victor Espino – Auditor/PRO, Dr. Rodrigo Hipol III – Northern Mindanao Representative, Dr. Anthony Lawence Escovidal – Southern Mindanao Representative.
Our current PUA President, Dr. Jaime Balingit, gave out three Presidential Citation Awards to Dr. Hector Jacinto for the outreach programs, Dr. Paul Sunga for the Ad Hoc Committee on Urology Review Course and Dr. Carlos Ramon Torres as head of the scientific committee.
The 2012 Executive Council were also inducted into office. Dr. Raul Winston Andutan – President, Dr. Jose Rufo Campana – Vice-President, Dr. Ulysses Quanico – Secretary, Dr. Rufino Agudera – Treasurer, Dr. Rodolfo Ursua – Auditor, Dr. Wilfredo Tagle and Dr. Carlos Ramon Torres Jr. – Council Members.
The Ceremonial Turnover of Symbols of Authority and Responsibility from Dr. Balingit to in-coming president Dr. Andutan followed. The acceptance speech of Dr. Andutan centered on the highlights of the next fiscal year for the PUA. Five main points were raised: 1. to further develop the surgical skills of the Filipino urologists through CME’s, 2. to assure the involvement of the PUA with our Asian counterparts and the inclusion of Filipino urologists in the faculty of the Asian School of Urology, 3. to support the Phiippine Board of Urology, 4. to continue our social responsibility through medical missions and 5. to strengthen the research output of the residents and consultants. The fellowship night came to a close after a short program with the much awaited raffle of gadgets. Dr. Magno Jose Valdez and Dr. Marjohn Morano each won a 36GB iPad2. The grand prize, a Macbook Air, went to Dr. Mikee Cuaresma. Congratulations to the PUA Executive Council of 2011 for a fulfilling year.
There were a lot of shuttle cock smashers who showed up for the 4th PUA (Mindanao chapter) President Badminton cup despite the heavy traffic and a flash flood-causing downpour in the Metro Manila area. Delegates coming from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao were initially leveled accordingly by the officials into 3 groups. The champions were awarded by our friends from Biomedis with decent trophies and other prizes.

Adding fire to the night was the princess of pole dancing, Ciara Sotto. She delivered a performance that drew awes from the crowd.It was totally different kind of show from previous conventions. Everyone was mesmerized and from their faces you can clearly see that they definitely enjoyed the experience.
Then the Silk band brought the temperature higher. Hands started waving as their feet danced to the beat. The floor went crazy. It was definitely a blast.
At around 6pm on the 1st of December of the presentyear, PUA president Dr. Jaime C. Balingit and PUA vice president Dr. Raul Winston Andutan led fellow urologists with the ceremonial ribbon cutting for the opening of exhibits. A total of 50 club swingers greeted the early morning green of East Ridge Golf Club in Binagonan,Rizal. As always PUA members and guests were treated with a sumptous breakfast prepared by our friends from Astellas and Pascual Pharma to start the day right and a cup of strong coffee to wake the sleepy heads. First tee off started at 7 in the morning and the last ball in the hole went in at4 PM. The much awaited fellowship and awarding followed at the clubhouse. As expected it was jammed packed because of high end raffle prizes. From LCD monitors to golf gadgetries. The golf champions went home with trophies and cash prizes.

Dr. Mike Chua has ruled the annual research contest by bagging two awards in the moderated poster presentation and podium presentation on December 2, 2011 in Edsa Shangrila Hotel. The first year resident from St. Luke’s Medical Center has discussed during the 54th annual convention research forum two meta-analyses about the correlation of omega 3 fatty acids with the risk of developing prostate cancer. Natrapharm has awarded him 20,000 pesos for winning the podium presentation and another 5,000 pesos for dominating the poster contest.
The dawn of November 27, 2011 saw an assembly of about 300 runners in the compound of Veterans Memorial Medical Center as they joined Takbong Urology. Local elite runners and some Kenyan nationals were lured by the cash prize and dominated the event in the open 4k and 10k category. Familiar faces from the previous races dominated the Urology category. in the 4k contest, Dr. Benjie Reyes topped the race followed by Dr. Eli Paul Madrona then by Dr. Dodge Limjoco. Dr. Arbee Bascuna finished the 10k event first with a time of 56 minutes. Dr. Erick Mendiola came in second and Dr. Mike Gaston placed third. Proceeds from this year's TAKBONG UROLOGY The 2011 Run for PROSTATE CANCER of the PUA will benefit the projects of the PUA Outreach Committee Medical missions.
