The PUA Gun Club was organized last year, spearheaded by the staff members of the Section of Urology of AFPMC. The first set of interim officers were Nelson A. Patron, MD- President, Marcelino L. Morales, Jr., MD- Vice President, Ernesto L. Gerial, Jr., MD,- Secretary and Steve L. Lim, MD- Treasurer.
The first activity of the founding members was to draft the constitution and by-laws of the gun club and apply for SEC registration. A series of Club shoots were organized, mostly held at the Army Firing Range at Fort Bonifacio, coordinated by the urologist from
AFPMC. We had a significant number of PUA members who joined the club. They were first taught the basics in gun safety and handling. Then, each one also received the instructions on how to properly shoot the handgun, from the basic stance, grip, breathing technique, sight picture and squeezing the trigger. Everyone enjoyed the basic instructions. A number of PURA members also joined the gun club and participated in the activities.
The first shootfest tournament was held last year during the annual PUA convention at the Philippine Marines Firing Range. This was a real competition with trophies awarded to the winners. Of course, the beginners were assigned to different category from those who already have shooting experience and have joined actual competition.
After that, the club organized a once to twice a month funshoot, also well attended by enthusiastic club members. Many have bought their own new guns, had their own competition holsters, extra magazines, brought several bullets for practice. You can observe how many have improved on their accuracy and speed.
The next club competition was held during the midyear convention in Naga City. This was well organized, thanks to the members of the Gun Club in Naga who provided the course of fire and officiating. Cash prizes were also award to the winners. Seeing the success of the club and the enthusiasm of the club members, a lot of our friends form the pharmaceutical companies have promised their support in sponsoring the succeeding series of club shoots, of which we have done on a regularly monthly basis at the Army Firing Range.
On the status of the SEC registration, I am proud to announce that our staff, Mr. Jesse Cusi has successfully acquired a SEC registration last June 16, 2009, with a SEC # CN200908428. After that, we applied for a BIR Registration and had it approved last July 3, 2009, with a BIR TIN # 007-307-922-000. We have applied for printing of the official receipts. The next step will be the registration of the gun club with the Firearms and Explosives Unit of the PNP and the Philippine Practical Shooting Association. Our next problem is identifying our base shooting range. We are trying to get affiliated with the Army Firing Range, through the efforts of Ltc. Bernardo C. Cabatingan, Jr.
This annual convention, the schedule of the shootfest competition is on November 22, 2009, also at the Army Firing Range. This would consist of five (5) exciting and challenging stages for all participants. We invite even the non-members to come and join us and enjoy the fun.
