The activities of the gun club has been limited this year because of two successive gun bans, the first was for the national election and the second was for the local barangay election. It was for this reason that we were not able to conduct a shooting competition when we held our midyear convention in Cebu.
Prior to the gun ban, Astellas Pharmaceutical conducted a fun shoot at the SEB Firing Range, Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio and another at the Camp Atienza Engineering Brigade Firing Range at Libis, Quezon City. Both were well attended and many enjoyed the event, including new shooters who are gaining interest in the sport.
Before the barangay election gun ban, Pascual Laboratories sponsored a shooting competition tournament. This was held at the Marine Batallion Firing Range. Shooters were divided into three categories, Class A, B and C. Each category would have a 2nd runner-up, 1st runner-up and champion. At the end of the day, the range officers were still busy computing the result. It was decided that the result would be announced during the welcome cocktails of the annual convention.
This year annual shooting competition will be held again at the Marine Firing Range on November 29, 2010, also sponsored by Astellas Pharma. We are expecting more participation among the members and guest, including the new shooters who showed interest with the sport.
For the year 2011, we are planning more shooting activities. The level of the competitions will be elevated to international category, providing strict rules and regulations, to be handled by officials of the Philippine Practical Shooting Association so that our members will be acquainted as to the proper decorum while in the shooting range. I have observe that what we are doing at present, although still within the category of safe gun handling, will not pass through a Level 2 of 3 competition. Many may be disqualified because of improper gun handling.
See you in the firing range this annual competition.
