To celebrate its 19th Urology Week, St. Luke’s Medical Center – Institute of Urology held the first post-graduate course on robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy on September 3, 2011 at the Henry Sy Auditorium in SLMC – Bonifacio Global City. The event featured a live video demonstration of the procedure on a 62-year old post-TURP patient diagnosed to have prostate adenocarcinoma Gleason score 6 (3+3). Dr. Michael S. Gomez, a Chicago-based Filipino Urologist, flew into the country to perform and to talk about the procedure. Our very own Dr. Josefino C. Castillo and Dr. Joel M. Estanislao assisted in the three-hour surgery. The scientific course, graced by the presence of Urologists from Metro Manila and nearby provinces, ended with a lecture on the initial outcomes of SLMC robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy by Dr. Dennis P. Serrano.
